Simple fix for a blown audio power amplifier - Save your $$$!
Power amps blow when they are driven to clipping and don't have protection against it. I blew mine up using a guitar cable as a speaker cable. What looks on the surface as a worthless amp though can usually be fixed fairly easily. Saved me a ton of money on another and hopefully it will save you some heartache as well.

DEFCON 17: Injecting Electromagnetic Pulses into Digital Devices
Speaker: Paul F. Renda Data Security Analyst, Futurist This talk is not about someone on the ground firing a ray gun at a jet and bringing it down, this talk is about someone on the jet injecting EMP in the wiring system of the jet and causing great problems with the aviation systems and the black box. I will define smart and dumb digital devices based to how they respond to injected pulses. The talk will have at least 10 video demos of device pulses and a video of a surge protector. The Marx generator will be explained and a mosfet charging circuit. Going green, fly by wire airplanes, robotic control trains, densely integrated systems, these are all realities of our daily environment. One problem is that all of these make our life more susceptible to an EMP disruption. Other topics covered include TWA 800, Telsa coil, Byzantine faults and the power grid. DIY E Cigarette USB "Passthrough" power supply. How to Recycle Your Ego Batts! CHEAP MOD
You can turn your old defective/dead batteries into a totally rockin USB "passthrough" power supplies. Video was filmed sideways but it doesn't make a huge difference for most of the video. You will need. 1. A dead/cheap e-cig battery. 2. Soldering gun/Soldering Wire 3. Wire strippers 4. Scrap button component. (if your doing it my way) 5. Too much time on your hands. USB Ports put out 5V of vapy goodness. Please Consult your local vaping experts to see if your current set up can handle 5V. For comparison , an e-go twist maximum voltage is around 4.8V. I have heard some people claim that USB power fluctuates sometimes. so... whatever. It works great. EDIT: PC/Laptop work fine, car/wall usb charger below 2.0 A fall short of satisfying ***BUY THEM HERE APPARENTLY** http://www.fasttech.com/products/1411/10004773/1372002-usb-cable-connected-wired-battery-for-electronic 1. Looking Inside a "Disposable" UPS
"That's me, voiding warranties with glee since approximately 1983!" Today's victim is a brand new APC Smart-UPS BN450M, purchased solely out of curiosity. I've been told by APC employees that the company felt there was a market for a UPS with a battery that can't be serviced by the end user. I'd tell you I think that's wasteful, but the truth of it is that very few owners of home/small business grade UPS products ever replace the batteries. They usually chuck the unit in the trash, donate it to a thrift store and buy a new unit when the old one fails a self test or (more commonly) fails to keep their equipment going when the power goes out. Or they let it sit in some forgotten place under monstrous trothes of dust, sometimes still connected to power but with the battery backed outlets shut off so it won't make noise. The good news is that you can replace the battery in this unit, if you're of a mindset to do so and don't mind spending a few life-endangering moments doing so. It's a standard shape and size (12 volt, 4.5 amp-hours). This video also demonstrates why it's bad idea to consider hooking these smaller UPSes up to larger external batteries. The inverter just isn't beefy enough to withstand operating (especially at full load) for any longer than the stock battery will last.

1969 Allied Radio - Electronics for Everyone Catalog #280
An archive of vintage Allied Radio & Industrial Electronics Catalogs on YouTube. Catalog pages are displayed in 1080p HD (high definition). To view text clearly, set your YouTube setting to display 1080p HD. To view the complete ALLIED RADIO & ELECTRONICS CATALOG ARCHIVE, go to: www.AlliedCatalogs.com To view the complete RADIO SHACK CATALOG ARCHIVE, go to: www.RadioShackCatalogs.com ** A BRIEF HISTORY OF ALLIED RADIO & ELECTRONICS CORPORATION ** In 1928, Allied Radio (now known as Allied Electronics) was started in Chicago, IL. In 1932, Allied was selling electronic parts by catalog. Storefront sales operations were established with the goal of selling to amateur radio operators and electronics experimenters. The company built a growing business in marketing radio parts and kits to home hobbyists, and was one of the first to sell electronics through a catalog. In addition, Allied opened storefront distribution outlets to reach more amateur ham radio operators and experimenters. During this time, Allied moved to 833 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL. From 1941-45, having survived the depression, Allied focused on the war effort, primarily servicing government contracts and high-priority industrial orders. During WWII, Allied devoted itself to the war effort by handling government contracts and high-priority industrial needs. This was Allied's first real experience in industrial electronics. After the war, Allied continued to sell to the consumer and industrial markets. From 1946-60, the electronics industry exploded as new developments in electronics were adopted on a widespread basis in commerce and industry. Innovations such as television, industrial automation, space technology and defense accelerated the need for electronics. Consumer demand also grew as radio sets and components not available during the war proliferated. Allied's main competitors were Radio Shack, Lafayette Radio, Olson Electronics, Newark Electronics, Burstein-Applebee Co., and local independent dealers (such as WinterRadio). Allied's primary house brands included "Allied", "Knight", and "Knight-Kit". In 1953, Allied Radio Corporation moves into its new, 2 million dollar building at 100 N. Western Ave, Chicago, IL. This "ultra-modern" facility was designed by experts to give their customers the best service in the industry. In 1961, Allied Radio Corporation established Allied Electronics Corporation as a wholly owned subsidiary to assume industrial sales of its small electronic components, relays, semi-conductors and the like which accounted for more than one-third of Allied's $40 million annual sales. In 1962, the first industrial catalog for Allied Electronics, a subsidiary of Allied Radio, was released. The company continued to serve both amateur and professional ham radio operators as one of the few places to locate that "hard to get" piece of radio equipment. In 1970, Allied moved its headquarters from Chicago, Illinois to Fort Worth, Texas because 1970 marked the year when Radio Shack's parent company, the Tandy Corporation (now Radio Shack Corporation) , purchased Allied Electronics and Allied Radio. In 1970, Tandy introduced combined catalogs of Allied Radio Shack stereo equipment, computers, phones, CB radios, scanners, speakers, antennas, P.A. systems, walkie-talkies, radios, electronic components, test equipment, electronic kits, & more. In 1972, the catalog is now a treasure trove for persons tracking down old components when trying to restore old professional and industrial equipment. Essex/Stancor, UTC, Switchcraft, Dialco, Arrow-Hart, Sprague, Fairchild, Robertshaw, Centralab, Belden, Sigma, Magnecraft, C. P. Clare, Amphenol, Shure, Electro-Voice, Sola, Simpson, Superior Electric, Hurst, RCA, Elmenco, ADC, H. H. Smith, are only some of the brand names represented. Interspersed with the major pro names were Micronta, Realistic, and other Radio Shack "consumer level" house brands. In 1973, due directly to federal court action, Tandy was ordered to divest itself of Allied Radio. In 1995, Allied is the first electronics distribution company to come out with a CD-ROM catalog and quickly followed-up by entering the e-commerce arena with the launch of a web site. Allied's main competitors were Radio Shack, Newark Electronics, Digi-Key, Jameco, and Mouser Electronics. Today, Allied Electronics is a small order, high service level distributor of electronic components and electromechanical products with over 50 sales offices across the United States and in Canada.

Tech Tip: See what every attorney should have in their demonstrable evidence kit
Legal consultant David Clark shows what gadgets every attorney should have when presenting demonstrable evidence. Hello my name is David Clark of Clark and partners consultants LLC of McHenry Illinois and I’m here with a tech tip. The tech tip is involved with demonstrable evidence whether that that demonstration of sight and sound and/or computer usage might be in the courtroom or could be in a conference room. I’m going to show you gadgets that fit within a small bag just like this. First of all, we’re dealing with in terms of the world of projection. I have before me a small projector different from most of the LED, different from the projectors because this has an LED bulb as opposed to the incandescent bulbs that are extremely expensive. So this one is very small, weighs less than a pound and it is commercially selling for about $200. But offers about thousand ansi lumens that will render it will large courtroom the adequate image as projected onto a screen. We also may have the occasion to deal with sound, if we’re dealing with an operation this is a portable speaker system that’s that could be utilized in the courtroom either battery operated or utilizing the AC yet allows us to take and amplify the sound of that one would use from a smart device or a computer for the benefit of those in attendance at the conference or in the courtroom. Dealing with another element of sound, we might you be able utilize all of the resources within the courtroom itself by utilizing an adapter it’s available at RadioShack that utilizes the speaker systems that are found in the court room utilizing the jack adapter that we see here and a cable, that is on one end and RCA pin and on the other end mini pin, so they can be plugged into a smart device or a computer, so that the utilizing the sound system of the court room or the conference room that is there. I have here now a key element, if you’re dealing with a courtroom situation with it with a witness on the stand and are projecting an image this is a very small pen like laser pointer that from the witness stand the expert witness or the person testifying can then illustrate by the use of this laser pointer on the screen that the jury or the court is utilizing. Lastly, we all need power and one of the things that I keep this kit bag is an 18-foot extension cord with the multiple AC adapter head. In that regard, I keep also this small adapter. And this adapter is a surge protector that allows me to plug it into a multiple headed extension cord that provides surge protection for all the electronics that I’m utilizing within the court room for my demonstrable evidence. Thank you for watching. Again, my name is David Clark and you can have further information or questions can be answered via ISBA.org ask colt.
